Arcalion is a brand-name version of the nootropic compound Sulbutiamine. Sulbutiamine is a synthetic form of Vitamin B1 (Thiamine).
Sulbutiamine was developed by Japanese researchers who were looking for a way to help people better absorb Thiamine.
Sulbutiamine is essentially two Thiamine molecules bound together with sulfur. This alteration helps the new supplement more easily cross over the blood-brain barrier then Thiamine.
Arcalion is known to increase energy levels, improve memory, and promote a better mood by reducing stress and increasing feelings of wellbeing. Arcalion is one of the best dopaminergic nootropics and it works well when stacked with other nootropics such as Aniracetam or Noopept.

- Heightened alertness, focus & energy
- Supports memory & mental performance

Arcalion works by first entering into the central nervous system and then affecting a number of changes or modulations upon neurotransmitters and receptor sites. Once it crosses over the blood-brain barrier this supplement is very fast-acting.
One of the most interesting facts about this supplement is that even though it is lipid (or fat) soluble, it still mixes with water. This fact is considered to be the primary reason why it is so much more effective than its predecessor Thiamine, which is only water-soluble.
Once the supplement reaches the brain, it affects Acetylcholine, Glutamate, and Dopamine receptor sites. In effect, the levels of these neurotransmitters are increased.
As powerful brain chemicals, each of these are responsible for a number of different cognitive activities and processes. By using Arcalion (Sulbutiamine) supplements, you may improve mental functions related to mood regulation, memory, concentration, and more.
Another interesting mechanism of action is that it helps to increase the level of circulating thiamine phosphate esters within the brain. It also is known to have a very high absorption rate and bioavailability within the human body.
Arcalion Benefits
A number of studies have shown that this supplement helps to improve memory and other mental functions. Due to the potentiation of the neurotransmitters Acetylcholine, Dopamine, and Glutamate it is also thought that this supplement increases the efficiency of neurotransmission within the brain.
As you age, your supply of neurotransmitters can be diminished by up to 50%, but it is hypothesized that Arcalion may restore this balance. Use of Sulbutiamine for improving loss of memory due to conditions like Alzheimer’s, dementia, and even age-related cognitive decline is an area of research interest.
By the unique benefits that Arcalion exhibits on various neurotransmitters and their receptor sites, it may also improve reflexes, attention, and mental alertness. Because of these effects, Sulbutiamine has been used in various countries to treat a condition known as asthenia, a chronic form of fatigue that is based on cognitive function rather than having a muscular origin.
Sulbutiamine may also have positive implications for individuals who suffer from depression as well as people with high levels of stress or anxiety.
Many users will also experience significant mood enhancement when taking Sulbutiamine, due to the increased stimulation of Dopamine D1 receptors. Still others may see this as a method of promoting relaxation and positive thoughts while alleviating stress.
The Dopaminergic effects of Arcalion are known to diminish with continuous use, so you should be rotating this with other mood-enhancing nootropics to prevent a tolerance from forming.
Arcalion is used as a drug in some countries for the treatment of asthenia. Research on Sulbutiamine is limited, and more research is still needed. At this time, Sulbutiamine is available in the USA as a dietary supplement only, and the FDA has not approved Sulbutiamine as a drug to prevent or treat any conditions.
Arcalion Dosage
Proper dosage depends on many different factors including age, weight, and purpose for taking the supplement. The dosage range below is a general guideline only, and your personal dosage may be different. It is recommended that you speak with your doctor to determine the best dosage for your needs.
The typically recognized and accepted dosage range is between 100 and 1,200 mg per day.
It is also recommended that new users begin with the lowest effective dose possible. Only increase this after becoming familiar with the effects it has upon your specific body chemistry. Remember to cycle this supplement so that your body does not form a tolerance to the effects.
Arcalion is quite effective, safe, and easy to take. The dose may be divided into several administrations throughout the day. Some experimentation may be in order to determine the specific timing and spacing of doses.
Although Arcalion is both water and fat soluble, it is considered best to take this supplement with food.
It is recommended that Arcalion not be taken in the evening, as the effects can be stimulating and may interfere with falling and staying asleep.
Arcalion Side Effects
Arcalion has been rated by the Natural Medcines database as Possibly Safe when used orally and appropriately in healthy people. While serious side effects are rare with appropriate usage, some mild issues have been associated with the supplement. Most side effects occur in cases with higher than recommended doses.
While Arcalion is used by some people for anxiety and depression, in some users these issues may actually be intensified. There have been user reports of this supplement causing mood swings, anxiety, and irritability, and negatively affecting overall mood.
Skin rashes similar to eczema has been reported in rare cases. Difficulty sleeping has also been reported, most likely due to the stimulating effects Arcalion can have if taken later in the day.
At the first sign of any of these side effects, you should first back your dosage down to under the recommended levels. If the side effects persist, then stop supplementation for a time and allow the body to reset itself. When starting back up, begin with a much lower dose initially.
Arcalion Review
Arcalion is a popular mood enhancing supplement that has a number of Nootropic effects that also may promote a synergistic effect with Racetams and other Nootropics. It can boost activity in brain systems responsible for memory, learning, attention span, concentration, and focus.
You can buy Arcalion as Sulbutiamine in bulk powder form for $29.99 for 50 grams which will typically last you two to three months depending on your personal dose. Sulbutiamine is commonly used in a stack with a Racetam, such as Aniracetam, and a choline source, like Citicoline, for best results.

I just wanted to ask whether arcalion works better if taken in a single dose of 400 – 600 mg or divided doses would be more effective? And is there any other nootropic like Arcalion that is available off-prescription?
Hey Asif,
Divided doses are going to be more effective since Arcalion’s half-life is relatively short. Two dosages a day should be sufficient for most individuals, but if you are planning to work late into the night you could use three instead. Arcalion shouldn’t be taken too late at night since it does have some stimulating effects.
There are lots of non-prescription Nootropics available! Here is our list of the best nootropics you can use: https://nootriment.com/nootropic-supplements/

Por quanto tempo posso tomar Arcalion?Tenho 74 anos de idade.
is it safe to use Arcalion whie using Escitalopram? i find that focus and retention are greatly diminished and wanted to use Arcalion to boost these.
Why take the arcalion in the morning? what happens if taken at lunch hr or evening?
If taking Arcalion later in the day, it can cause a stimulating effect that can make it difficult to fall asleep. This effect will be different for everyone. For example, some people can drink caffeine all day long and still fall asleep without any problem while others can’t drink it after noon without disrupting their sleep patterns. Therefore, it’s best to avoid taking Arcalion too late in the day until you gauge your individual sensitivity.
