Natural astaxanthin 10 mg capsules provide powerful antioxidant protection. Astaxanthin is a special type of carotenoid called a xanthophyll. It is considered to be the most stable of the carotenoid molecules and exhibits several benefits compared to beta-carotene (provitamin A).
Astaxanthin a red pigment found in a certain alga, and in creatures that consume the alga. This compound is the reason why Krill Oil supplements appear red, while Fish Oil supplements (which do not contain astaxanthin) appear yellowish to the eye.
Research shows that astaxanthin is one of the strongest antioxidant substances found in nature. It rates much higher at scavenging free radicals and inhibiting oxidative stress than other, more well-known antioxidants.

Related Topics
Astaxanthin 10 mg capsules are use for eye health, reducing inflammation and promoting brain health. It is considered generally to be an anti-aging supplement, capable of combating signs of aging linked to oxidative damage.
This supplement has been researched for its effects on cancer, stroke, age-related macular degeneration, certain neurodegenerative diseases and high cholesterol (hypercholesterolemia).
Astaxanthin is also implicated for use in bone and joint disorders, male infertility, certain dermatological conditions, dyspepsia (indigestion), autoimmune diseases, cardiovascular disease and various other conditions and diseases.
There is limited human research available to validate many of the uses of astaxanthin as a dietary supplement. However, there is considerable on-going research into the effects of this compound and carotenoids in general.
There is also a significant amount of research into Krill Oil capsules, which contain astaxanthin naturally in small doses.
What Are Free Radicals?
Astaxanthin capsules are said to combat the damaging effects of free radical particles. Free radicals are atoms or molecules which have unpaired electrons.
They are formed when oxygen reacts with various other molecules in the body. Free radicals are created in very high amounts during normal metabolic processes. If left unchecked, these molecules can cause significant damage to cells throughout the body.
Free radicals attack all types of cells. They “steal” electrons from healthy structures; leaving them imbalanced and damaged. Free radicals also cause “cascading” damages to healthy cells. These chain reactions can lead to greater tissue damage.
Free radicals can alter the structure of DNA, cell membranes and other integral cellular components. If the damage is too severe, the cells die.
According to FRTA (free radical theory of aging), age results from accumulations of damages induced by free radical agents over time. Routinely taking astaxanthin 10 mg capsules may help to decrease free radical damage.
Astaxanthin Capsules as a Source of Antioxidants
Astaxanthin supplements are used because they are potent anti-oxidants that can fight oxidative damage.
Antioxidants are special molecules which are able to neutralize free radicals without incurring damage. Most antioxidants neutralize free radicals by “donating” an electron. In doing so, the possible cascade of negative effects is suppressed before these free radical particles can cause damage to the body.
Most antioxidants are either hydrophobic (water fearing) or hydrophilic (water loving). Hydrophobic antioxidants are soluble in lipids. Hydrophilic antioxidants are soluble in water.
Fat-soluble and water-soluble antioxidants affect different types of molecules and tissues. The human body requires adequate levels of both types of antioxidants to effectively combat free radical damage and oxidative stress.
Astaxanthin vs. Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Beta-Carotene
Astaxanthin has become popular in recent years because it has been found to exhibit significantly greater anti-oxidant potential than Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Beta-Carotene.
Vitamin C, vitamin E and beta-carotene are the principal micronutrient antioxidants found in the diet. The human body is not capable of biosynthesizing these nutrients. They must be gained from the diet.
Vitamin C is also called ascorbic acid. It is a water-soluble substance found in kale, spinach, cabbage, strawberries, kiwi, cantaloupe, and citrus fruits.
Vitamin E (d-alpha tocopherol) is soluble in lipids (fats). It is found in fish oil, seeds, nuts, wheat germ, apricots and certain fortified cereals.
Beta-carotene is a fat-soluble precursor to vitamin A. It is found in tomatoes, peaches, broccoli, yams, carrots, spinach, egg yolks, butter, squash and certain other foods.
The antioxidant properties of natural astaxanthin 10 mg capsules are stronger than those of the principal micronutrient antioxidants discussed above. Research shows that astaxanthin scavenges free radicals about 14 times as effectively as vitamin E, 65 times as effectively as vitamin C and 150 times as effectively as beta-carotene.
Natural astaxanthin has a unique molecular structure which enables it to function in both water and fat environments. It also, unlike most other antioxidants, is able to cross the BBB (blood brain barrier) and the BRB (blood retinal barrier).
By entering into the brain directly, astaxanthin may be able to improve certain neurodegenerative conditions. It is also used widely to combat macular (vision) degeneration.
Additional Effects of Astaxanthin 10 mg
Natural astaxanthin also demonstrates multiple other therapeutic potentials. Research shows that it also acts to reduce long-term, low-grade inflammation. This type of chronic inflammation is associated with many diseases.
In-vitro, animal and human research has also shown natural astaxanthin to possess certain antidiabetic, cardioprotective, pro-fertility, antiarthritis, antiobesity, antihypertensive and other properties. Human research has been limited up until now, but there are a number of studies on-going at present.
Safety of Astaxanthin 10 mg Capsules
Natural astaxanthin is a GRAS (Generally Regarded as Safe) food according to the US FDA. It is rated by the Natural Medicines database as Likely Safe when used in common dietary amounts.
When used alone, Astaxanthin is rated as Possibly Safe in doses between 4 mg and 40 mg daily for up to 12 weeks. When used as ingredients in combination supplements, 4 mg daily doses have been free of adverse effects for up to one year.
No side effects have been associated with astaxanthin capsules when used orally in proper amounts. Usage is very well tolerated in most individuals. Do not use if pregnant or nursing.
Discontinue use at least 2 weeks prior to surgery to prevent an increased risk of bleeding. Use caution if combining this product with pharmaceuticals and/or herbal supplements.
Talk with your doctor about the safety and benefits of astaxanthin 10 mg capsules. Natural substances like astaxanthin may not affect all individuals in the same ways.
