Cerebrolysin is a prescription medication currently used in the treatment of vascular dementia.
Due to its neurotrophic and neuroprotective properties, the drug has caught the attention of the neuroscientific medical community.
The drug is a peptide mixture isolated from protein found in the brain of pigs.
It has shown some remarkable effects in being able to repair brain damage and promote improved communication between neurons.
What are the positive Cerebrolysin Effects that users can expect when taking this drug?

- May decrease beta amyloid in the brain
- Promotes neuron health & plasticity
- May improve short-term memory

Researchers began studying the medication in the early 1970s. Currently, there are multiple studies under way exploring Cerebrolysin as a treatment for Alzheimer’s disease, stroke, and other neurological conditions including dementias not of the Alzheimer’s variety.
In addition to its potential effectiveness at treating cognitive disorders and diseases, Cerebrolysin has demonstrated a low incidence of serious side effects.
To date, scientists have noted that Cerebrolysin effectively slows down the processes of progressive memory loss, cognitive impairment, neurodegenerative diseases, and motor and sensory symptoms of stroke. The drug works on multiple fronts to improve the function and the quantity of neurons and neurotransmitters within the brain.
In the smart drug community, Cerebrolysin hasn’t really caught on. This is partly due to the fact that it must be injected, either intramuscularly or intravenously, for it to be effective. A few nootropic users who are familiar with, and comfortable with, proper protocols for self-injection have experimented with the drug. This article will explore the effects of nootropic use at a dosage of 10ml per day.
10ml Doses in a Healthy Individual
Cerebrolysin is typically administered in 5mL doses taken over a period of 5 consecutive days, followed by two days off. This cycle is repeated for a period of 4 weeks, then the patient takes two months off which, assumedly, is to allow for the body to adjust (though there aren’t any indications this is absolutely necessary). The cognitive effects of the drug are said to be long-lasting, possibly as long as 3-6 months.
There are no known studies indicating what the long-term effects, if any, the medication may have on healthy individuals taking Cerebrolysin, however, there are a few user experiences which have been shared.
Here, we will discuss two user reports specifically recounting their experience while taking Cerebrolysin in doses of 10ml/day. These personal accounts offer some indication of what a healthy individual might expect with the drug. Both cases involve a healthy individual with no reported diagnosis of neurodegenerative disease.
In the first case, there was a marked anti-depressive and anti-anxiety effect which kicked in after only a day or two on the drug. There was an increased sensitivity to caffeine. The user reported trouble getting to sleep, at first, but his system evidently adapted within a few days after which there were no further sleep disturbances.
The second user account may be more informative for our purposes because use continued for a period of approximately six months. The user cycled 10ml doses by injecting the drug for four days, followed by four days off.
Again, a marked anti-depressive and anti-anxiety effect was noted. A significant increase in appetite was reported. The user notes a slight increase in blood pressure following each injection, as well as emphasizing the need to inject the drug slowly otherwise you may experience an increase in heart rate and episodic sweating. Only a slight boost in sexual activity was reported.
User Experience Notes
The user in the first report shared this final note:
“This nootropic is one of those which have a very pronounced effect and it scares me. To be honest, this is one of the reasons I will not continue taking Cerebrolysin.”
“Nobody knows what the long term effects of this drug. I am a healthy individual, so I don’t see any need to take a risk and use it any longer. However it was a positive experience.”
The user in the second report shared the following review on Cerebrolysin’s effects:
“When you’re off the Cerebrolysin, you feel like it’s a bad day for no reason…I didn’t notice any significant negative long-term effects on my cognitive processes…I seem to be able to concentrate better at any time, without taking any substances, or even after smoking a lot of weed.”
“I’m now able to “zone in” on something more completely and do better at focusing… I’ve decided for another mini-cycle just now, about 3 years after that last lengthy episode. I’m sticking to what the doctors here recommend: 5ml every OTHER day. Seems to be the correct dosage and schedule.”
Cerebrolysin Review
Nootropic users have experimented with the drug, though its use is not yet widespread. A drug with the potentials of Cerebrolysin would normally catch on quickly in the smart drug community, however, the need for the drug to be administered via injections may prohibit its widespread use. Some users report nasal inhalation experimentation, but results were not positive.
The primary positive effects of the drug on healthy individuals seem to be a possible increase in learning, memory and concentration over the long-term, with anti-depressive and anxiolytic effects, though these effects seem to cease when no longer injecting the drug.
While there have been some impressive Cerebrolysin effects observed in short-term trials, it seems that many of the same results can be achieved with taking the more popular nootropics available today.
