Coluracetam is a nootropic that most novice users of cognitive enhancement supplements have never heard of.
Despite the lower name recognition, this compound is remarkable for the fat that it is one of the first ever choline uptake enhancers available to buy.
But what is the right way to use this nootropic and what sort of Coluracetam dosage would be appropriate on its own or in a stack?
As is the case with most of the Racetam family members, Coluracetam is a supplement which was derived from Piracetam (the first member of the supplement category now known as Nootropics).
Although the original purpose of this drug was for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, it has not been approved for this purpose yet. However, there is much evidence to suggest that it may be effective in boosting other areas of brainpower.
Coluracetam has been shown effective in treating major depression disorder. Findings from the recently completed Phase 2a clinical trials suggest that it may be an ideal medication for depression and generalized anxiety disorder.
This supplement was invented and developed in Japan by the Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharmaceutical Corporation and registered in 2005. The current patent holder, a company by the name of BrainCells Inc, is responsible for conducting most of the recent testing.

As evidenced from its various clinical trials, this Nootropic supplement appears to be effective treatment for major depression disorder (MDD).
One of the reasons why is that Coluracetam works by enhancing Choline uptake within the brain.
In fact, it is currently the only known Choline uptake enhancer to exist.
This helps to increase the supply of Acetylcholine within the brain – a powerful neurotransmitter that is thought to mediate a number of different cognitive and mental processes.
A Coluracetam dosage has a number of typical Nootropic effects. These include an increase in memory and learning capacity along with an improved attention span and better abilities to focus and concentrate.
Some users report being able to think faster and with an improved speed of memory retrieval (although some do find the rush of new memories a bit distracting).
Coluracetam supplements are able to reduce levels of stress and anxiety by blocking out excessive stimuli. This is one of the known effects of an increase in acetylcholine activity in the brain, particularly in the nicotinic receptors.
As such, Coluracetam can improve your ability to relax, but does not induce a feeling of being drowsy. Instead, this is described as a focused calm (somewhat similar to what regular cigarette smokers experience when taking that first puff).
There is increased mental energy to go along with these benefits for most users, as well.

- Supports memory performance
- Boosts acetylcholine synthesis
- Studied for mood & vision
Coluracetam is surmised to increase the Choline uptake even by neurons that have been impaired or damaged.
There are research results suggesting that the supplement can be particularly effective in areas of the brain that are directly involved in visual processing. It follows that this could be something with the exciting promise of treating retinal and optic nerve injuries in the not too distant future.
Part of the naming of this Racetam revolves around the fact that it helps to make colors and shapes more vivid, improving overall eyesight.
Coluracetam Dosage:
Since this is still a relatively new supplement, a recommended dose or level has not yet been established. Therefore, it can be helpful to look at the various studies in order to determine some dosing guidelines.
Based on studies conducted using rats, the average human might consider taking between 2.5 to 3.0 mg per each kilogram of body weight. For a person of average weight, this should work out to approximately 200 mg per day of Coluracetam.
During their recent Phase 2a clinical trials, BrainCells Inc (using the name of Bcl-540) used a dose of 80 mg three times per day, which works out to be a total daily dosage of 240 mg, right around what most of the other studies indicate.
These trials were conducted mainly to determine the efficacy of this supplement to treat MDD and they showed that 36% of participants experienced improvements on their scores for two tests related to MDD. Therefore, it is safe to conclude that most adults should consider a dose of between 150 and 200 mg per day of oral Coluracetam pills or capsules.

- Focus longer, clear brain fog & feel more motivated
- Boost energy, alertnes & memory
- Contains 12 safe and natural nootropic ingredients
The few Coluracetam vendors that currently supply this nootropic often sell it in a sublingual solution format.
In other words, it comes in a liquid that is dosed by placing it under your tongue for it to absorb directly into the blood stream.
In this situation, a smaller dose is necessary since it will not pass through your digestive system or liver where it may be broken down. Such solutions are typically sold in 1 gram bottles containing 50 dosages of 20 mg each.
As is the case with any supplement, you also want to be sure to consult with a qualified medical professional before adding a dose of Coluracetam to your supplement routine.
Finally, because of the mechanism of action for Coluracetam to increase choline uptake in your neurons, the effects of this drug will be most palatable when combined with a high quality choline source.
Choline Bitartrate and Choline Chloride are fairly cheap acetylcholine supplements, but they end up being degraded in the gut and do not get transported to the brain as efficiently. For best results, Coluracetam should be stacked with supplements like Alpha GPC, CDP Choline or Centrophenoxine which are excellent sources of the Choline vitamin and work specifically on the brain.
Coluracetam Safety:
At the present time, there have not been any negative side effects reported for Coluracetam. In fact, during the clinical trials, with a total dose of 240 mg per day (split into three equal administrations) there were no side effects reported at all.
It is also worth noting that at the present time, this is the highest suggested dosage of Coluracetam used in any trials.
Where to Buy Coluracetam
One of the biggest barriers to using Coluracetam is the lack of suppliers around the world that sell it commercially. While you may find some research companies that can provide it in large bulk amounts, very few nootropic stores carry it in smaller amounts.
Many of the shops that do carry it have frequent stock disruptions or sell it at a high premium compared to the more popular Racetams like Piracetam, Aniracetam or Pramiracetam. While continued interest in this supplement may increase its availability down the road, at present it is difficult to find Coluracetam dosages for sale.
