Before looking at supplements that can help you concentrate, we would first like to address what concentration is.
You probably have some sense of what it feels like when you’re in the zone and giving 100% of your attention to some project or task. But what is happening in your brain to create this highly focused state of mind?
In the fields of neuroscience and psychology, concentration is known as endogenous attention or executive function. It is controlled by the anterior cingulate cortex which is located near the front of the brain.
Attentional control, or the ability to concentrate, is ultimately a neurological state in which there is a faster firing rate in your brain associated with certain stimuli. This process is mediated by neurotransmitters such as acetylcholine, dopamine and norepinephrine which send signals between your neurons to process information and recognize associations.
By increasing the efficiency of these systems, you can better control what you pay attention to as well as how much of your brainpower is being directed to a certain task. This system also enables you to ignore distractions and regulates feelings of motivation and mental drive.
As such, if you stimulate these parts of the brain by increasing the supply of neurotransmitters or increasing the receptiveness of your neurons to these neurochemicals, you can effectively boost your concentration and related forms of executive function.
Concentration Supplements
What are the best supplements to use if you want to improve attentional control in your brain? Stimulant drugs like Adderall and Ritalin are known to increase the firing rate of neurons in your anterior cingulate cortex, but they often have negative side effects and can actually deplete your supply of neurotransmitters without helping to refresh these stores.
For this reason, stimulants are not recommended because they only give you a short-term improvement in concentration and they often become less effective over time. However, a class of non-stimulant substances called Nootropics have emerged to offer a safer alternative to Adderall and similar medications.
Nootropics have actually existed since the 1960’s when they were first discovered by a research team in Europe. Scientists found that they could produce supplements that enhance brain function and inter-neuronal communication without having a stimulant effect on the Central Nervous System.
This was hitherto though impossible which is why the class of nootropics was first developed. While they were originally used to boost memory storage and learning retention, more recent studies have found that these supplements also affect the anterior cingulate cortex and other frontal regions of the brain involved in concentration.
So what are the best nootropics for concentration? There are a number of different Nootropic supplements that can help to improve one’s ability to control their attention and focus.
Almost all nootropics can be characterized as increasing concentration, but some are much better than others. These supplements all work in different ways which means that sometimes you can get better results by combining a few with together in a nootropic stack. Below are our Top 5 Concentration Supplements from the class of Nootropics:
5. Piracetam
: This was very first nootropic ever discovered and it remains to the day the most thoroughly researched as well as the most widely used. Most people start their investigations into nootropics by using Piracetam supplements because they are one of the best overall cognitive enhancers.
Piracetam powder is helpful in terms of increasing not only the ability to concentrate and focus, but also mental clarity and overall brain energy. It works by modulating receptors in the brain for the neurotransmitter acetylcholine as well as increasing oxygen uptake into brain cells.
4. Oxiracetam
Since the time of Piracetam’s discovery, much research has gone into developing more powerful versions of this original nootropic. Oxiracetam is a derivative of Piracetam that is 5x stronger. This Nootropic is affectionately known as the logic enhancer and seems to improve not only attentional control but also working memory which is another component of executive function.
It is a favorite among students who are studying engineering, sciences, MBAs or in other highly complex fields of research. The benefit of Oxiracetam is that it will not only help you concentrate, but also increase the fluidity of your thoughts so that all of your mental tasks seem to take less effort.
3. Phenylpiracetam
Phenylpiracetam or Phenotropil is the latest follow-up to Piracetam to hit the market. It is not only 60x stronger than Piracetam, it also has a significant energy-enhancement effect akin to using a powerful stimulant.
Like the other two Racetams, it can lead to improved focus, concentration and clearer thinking, but its particular mechanism of action is also ideal for fighting “brain fog” and giving you intense motivation.
The main difference between Phenylpiracetam and Piracetam is that developers changed the structure of the original supplement slightly by adding a Phenyl ring to the compound. This helps it to cross the blood-brain barrier much more effectively, allowing it to get into the central nervous system quicker and get to work faster.
2. Noopept
Next on our list of the best concentration supplements is Noopept which is an honorary memory of the Racetam family of Nootropics, but is said to be over 1,000x as strong in research papers. Noopept exerts its effects on the Cholinergic and Glutamatergic systems in the brain, resulting in dramatic increases in concentration and learning.
It is said to stimulate the motivation control centers in your brain as well as making it easier to ignore distractions and overcome procrastination. Users who take Noopept experience higher levels of fluid intelligence, as well as increased alertness and faster speed of cognition.
1. Adrafinil
Finally, the strongest of all of the nootropic supplements for boosting concentration can only be Adrafinil. This is a pro-drug to Modafinil which is a much safer analeptic compound used to treat ADHD and ADD as well as various other disorders that can impair mental performance and attentiveness.
While Modafinil is sold as a prescription drug, Adrafinil is available in the USA as a supplement at a much cheaper cost. Adrafinil has many of the same benefits as a stimulant drug might offer, but without the risk of serious side effects related to using Adderall or Ritalin.
Individuals who take Adrafinil tablets say that it enables them to focus intensely for an entire day without experiencing fatigue or “brain strain.” Adrafinil is incredibly powerful and needs to be used only on an infrequent basis to prevent the possibility of it harming your liver.

I’m a big fan of Alpha Brain. I’ve been pleased with the increase in clarity I have found taking the supplement. I made some lifestyle changes too, but I believe the supplement helped significantly!
How do you know if the product you are purchasing is not fake or substandard?
Hey,
The best way to verify is to ask for an up-to-date COA. Companies like Nootrico post a Certificate of Analysis for every batch of product. Other companies like PC, Peak and Absorb Health will generally send you the COA if you ask for it. You can also ask other users for reviews in our forums.
You can’t. And, 98% of these products DO NOT WORK, period. Don’t waste $$ on these scams folks. Moderate exercise, eating a lot less fast food garbage and mediation 10 minutes a day will all show improved mental clarity, memory, focus. Anyone that blows $30 a month on OTC vitamins is fooling themselves. I see another problem in society: lots of people buying Gatorade and other sports drinks, people that definitely don’t exercise or work out. Folks, these drinks were made for athletes and those that exercise. It’s not for kids either.
