The possible health benefits of DIM for men include naturally increasing testosterone levels, improving the risk factors for cardiovascular disease, and potentially reducing the risk of hormone-sensitive cancers.
DIM, scientifically named 3,3′-diindolylmethane is a compound that is manufactured by metabolizing indole-3-carbinol (I3C). I3C is a phytonutrient constituent of vegetables like broccoli, Brussels sprouts, watercress, kale and others.
While most of the past clinical research on diindolylmethane is focused on cancer prevention and treatment, clinical trials sponsored by the US National Cancer Institute are showing promise for other applications.
Positive effects from DIM for men and women are attributed to its ability to balance the hormones testosterone and estrogen.
Although diindolylmethane has previously been recommended mostly for women because of effects on regulated estrogen levels, it is now becoming more popular as a supplemental agent for men who desire overall enhancements to their health.

- Aids healthy hormone balance for men & women
- Mitigates some effects of excess estrogen
- Anti-oxidant & anti-inflammatory benefits
DIM for Men: Testosterone Boosting
Related Topics
Low testosterone levels are associated with various diseases and adverse conditions as well as low quality of life, lack of energy and sex drive, and poor physical performance.
As a result, consumer demand for TRTs (testosterone replacement therapies) has skyrocketed more than 2000% in recent years.
DIM testosterone boosting benefits for men are gaining notoriety because this supplement seems to elevate test naturally, bypassing many of the possible negative side effects associated with mainstream TRTs.
Testosterone therapies including injections, ointments, aerosol sprays, tablets and more are linked to side effects including swollen testicles, uncontrollable anger, prostate cancer, loss of hearing and coma.
Supplementation with DIM for men seems to balance estrogen, testosterone and other hormones without causing serious or permanent side effects. While women manufacture estrogen in their ovaries, adrenal glands and fat cells, men have to convert testosterone into estrogen (estradiol).
Until the 1990’s, estrogen was not believed to be important for men. It was believed to be the hormone that moderated female reproductive variables and not much more.
Now, it is known that estrogen is utilized by every organ, in both women and men.It serves many purposes in more than two dozen different molecular forms.
By suppressing the actions of aromatase to convert testosterone to estradiol, DIM for men maintains more free testosterone in the system. This in turn reduces any perceived needs to artificially boost testosterone levels via available TRTs, and thereby negate the possible side effects associated.
It can also offer benefits for men who want to lose weight – especially for men who accumulate fat around breast tissue (gynecomastia).
DIM for Improving Cardiovascular Health
Supplementation with DIM for men may also be effective at lowering the risk factors associated with various cardiovascular conditions and diseases. Having balanced estrogen levels accommodates more efficient cholesterol synthesis in the liver.
It is known to decrease the formations of arterial plaque throughout the circulatory system.
This in effect reduces risk factors for heart disease including coronary artery disease, atherosclerosis, hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia, obesity, diabetes mellitus and numerous others.
Statistics show that men are also using DIM more for bodybuilding purposes. Many report enhanced capacities to burn fat and gain lean muscle mass. However, these claims have not been validated with large-scale human testing.
DIM for Combating Prostate Cancer
Diindolylmethane administration is used by western allopathic doctors to balance estrogen levels.
This is theorized to prevent the development of estrogen-sensitive cancers like breast, uterine, cervical, prostate and colorectal cancers.
However, DIM is not yet approved as a treatment or preventative measure for cancer and more research is needed in this area to validate initial laboratory results.
DIM testosterone balancing effects for men may protect against the development of estrogen dominance.
For both men and women, having too much of estrogenic compounds in the body often leads to oncogenesis. High estrogen levels are also linked to gynecomastia, or the formation of male breasts.
Using DIM supplements for men may improve health in both of these areas and reduce side effects linked to excess estrogen levels. Diindolylmethane supplementation is also used for benign prostatic hypertrophy (enlargement of the prostate) and recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (RRP).
Safety of Supplementing DIM for Men
As diindolylmethane is a naturally-synthesized substance, it is known to be safe for humans in the amounts generally obtained through daily diets.
The average diet provides between two and twenty-four milligrams of DIM via I3C conversion daily. In these amounts, DIM for men is classified as likely safe.
In doses up to 300 milligrams daily, rare cases of headaches and gastrointestinal discomfort may be experienced. This supplementation level is considered to be possibly safe.
In cases where more than 300 milligrams of DIM are being administered daily, supplementation is considered to be possibly unsafe.
At high dosage levels, some rare instances of hyponatremia have been reported in clinical research trials. Hyponatremia develops when serum sodium levels are deficient.
In most cases, if corrected quickly, hyponatremia is asymptomatic. In some cases, mild side effects are experienced. In cases of untreated acute hyponatremia, very serious side effects, including death may result.
DIM Conclusions
DIM’s testosterone boosting effects, anti-cancer and chemo-preventive actions, cardio-protective effects continued to be researched for their potential health benefits for both men and women.
Free testosterone increases, possible muscle gains and fat losses, cancer protection, cardiovascular improvements and more are linked to using DIM in men.
The hormone-balancing effects of diindolylmethane are potent, and dosage changes should be discussed with a doctor. Small changes in doses can cause significant changes in biological actions.
