While Ginkgo biloba is registered as a drug in Germany and several other European countries, at this time in the USA, the FDA has not approved Ginkgo biloba as a drug to prevent or treat any conditions. Ginkgo biloba is available as a dietary supplement only in the United States.
Recommended Ginkgo Dosages
Proper dosage is dependent on many different factors, and it is recommended that you speak with your doctor to determine the best dosage for your needs. The following dosage recommendations are general guidelines only, and your personal dosage may be different.
A generally recommended dosage for Ginkgo biloba tablets and capsules is between 80 – 240 mg per day. This dosage can be taken in one administration or split into 2-3 divided doses depending on preference or purpose of use.
For cognitive performance, doses of between 120 – 300 mg per day have been used in research studies. In most case, this dose was split into two administrations daily. If using a 240 mg tablet, you can split the tablet into two to facilitate this dosage.
In some studies, higher dosages of Ginkgo biloba have been used, including 500 – 600 mg per day for dementia. These doses are not necessary for most individuals to experience benefits from this herb. Do not take more than 500 mg per day unless instructed to do so by your physician.
