Ginseng Plus is a name used by several different supplements that contain an extract of the roots of the Ginseng plant along with other ingredients. Some of these supplements also contain L-carnitine, B vitamins, royal jelly and rhodiola.
Brands that sell a “Ginseng Plus” supplement include Swanson Superior Herbs, Pure Planet, Natural Fervor and Nature’s Bounty.
Most Ginseng Plus supplements use Asian or Panax Ginseng. In TCM (traditional Chinese medicine), Asian ginseng is considered an adaptogen.

The Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database (NMCD) states that Panax ginseng is used for various purposes. Some of these include stimulating the immune system and enhancing cognitive performance.
Asian ginseng is also used for resisting environmental stress, increasing athletic stamina and supporting overall well-being. Other uses include mood enhancement, anxiety relief, fighting fatigue, erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, impotence and male infertility.
Asian ginseng is also believed to protect the heart and circulatory system. It has been studied for lowering cholesterol and triglycerides. In traditional or alternative medicine, this natural root is used for hypertension, congestive heart failure and COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).
There are various other uses for Panax ginseng as well. It has been researched for diabetes, fibromyalgia and certain types of cancers including breast, ovarian, liver, lung and skin cancer.
However, Ginseng supplements are not approved by the FDA for the treatment of any medical condition. Most of the traditional uses of this plant extract require validation via human trials.

Ginseng Plus Supplement Review
There are several different brands of Ginseng Plus supplements sold today. Many contain Panax Ginseng extract along with multiple other ingredients, designed to enhance the effectiveness of the product.
Ginseng Plus supplements which contain an herbal blend called Feng Shi Wan are marketed primarily for treating arthritis pains. Feng shi wan is said to dispel cold and wind, improve blood circulation and relieve pain and stiffness in the joints.
There are also Ginseng Plus complexes that contain Royal Jelly, which is a substance produced by bees. It is provided to all bees in a given hive during their first three days of life.
Beginning on the fourth day, common bees no longer receive this nutritious nectar. Only the queen, or developing queens are given royal jelly throughout their lives.
Royal Jelly supplements are used for asthma, liver disease, pancreatitis, PMS, kidney disease and stomach ulcers. Other uses include treating bone fractures, dermatological conditions, insomnia and hyperlipidemia.
Applied topically, royal jelly is used to stimulate hair growth and enhance skin health.
Ginseng Plus Dosage
Because different Ginseng Plus supplements contain different ingredients in different amounts, no standardized dosing recommendations are in place. Read and follow the dosing recommendations that are printed on any supplement you may choose.
The typical dosage range for Panax Ginseng is 100 – 400mg of standardized root extract per day. However, different products may contain different concentrations of the active constituents in the ginseng plant.
Ginseng Plus Side Effects
The possible side effects associated with any given Ginseng Plus supplement will depend on its exact ingredients. Like turmeric and other herbal supplements considered to be adaptogenic, Panax ginseng is believed to affect multiple body systems at the same time.
Adverse side effects are not common with proper use of Asian ginseng in healthy adults. However, this natural root supplement may interact with various diseases, medications, herbs and dietary supplements. The most common side effect associated with Asian ginseng is insomnia.
Other side effects reported from Ginseng use include mastalgia (breast tenderness), heart palpitations, loss of appetite and changes in blood pressure. Vertigo, mania and euphoria are also experienced in a small percentage of users.
Asian ginseng and other ingredients in Ginseng Plus supplements can interact with medications and herbal supplements with antiplatelet/anticoagulant properties. Various other interactions are possible with medications including antidiabetics drugs, P450 cytochrome substrates, MOAIs and stimulants.
