Noopept is a potent and popular nootropic used to enhance concentration, memory and overall cognitive ability.
In Russia, where it originated and is still currently produced, it is prescribed for cognitive enhancement as well as certain neurological disorders.
It is derived from the family of racetams, though Noopept is over 1,000 times more potent than other racetams.
Noopept is readily available and legal in the USA, although it has not been specifically approved for use by the Food and Drug Administration.
Lekka Laboratories, located in Russia, discovered Noopept reportedly while attempting to develop a prototype of Pramiracetam, a derivative of Piracetam, but more potent. It was first patented in Russia in 1995 and, at the present time, is patented only in Russia and USA.
It belongs to a class of brain boosting drugs known as nootropics which are considered non-toxic, non-addictive and not dangerous.
Some studies have been conducted on rodents, whose brains are thought to function similar to human brains, showing surprising neuroprotective potentials in addition to the memory and other cognitive improvements observed.
Studies also noted restored memory along with improvement in certain other cognitive functions among regular Noopept users.
Researchers are interested in finding whether these therapeutic effects may be helpful in treating certain types of brain injuries and other organic disorders of the central nervous system.

Each country makes their own laws about the legality and regulation of all substances.
Some nootropic supplements, like B-vitamins are common throughout the world and therefore the legal status of these is not likely to ever come into question.
Other nootropic substances like Noopept or the other commonly used racetams may be viewed differently by some governments.
For example, in the UK, Piracetam is a prescription drug, but individuals are still allowed to import a small amount of Piracetam for personal use. Other racetams are not a prescription drug there, so they may be bought without a prescription.
In the USA, being regulated means a substance is a scheduled or controlled substance under the law. For example, prescription drugs are controlled substances and each of them has a particular schedule assigned to it, thus a doctor’s prescription is needed to gain access to them.
Noopept has no schedule assigned to it in the USA, making it unregulated and therefore, it is legally available for anyone in the USA to buy, possess and use. Put simply, buying Noopept is legal to for personal use and you cannot get in trouble for purchasing or possessing it – even if you buy it online or from other countries.

- 1000x more potent than Piracetam
- Supports memory, focus and mood
- Boosts mental alertness and energy
It should be noted that Noopept has not been submitted to, and passed through, the process required by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in order to be considered approved.
This means, although it is legal to possess and to use Noopept, the FDA has not specifically approved it for any medical or dietary uses. As such, there may be limitations on the marketing and commercialization of Noopept supplements. This legal restriction relates more directly to suppliers and retailers and does not pertain specifically to consumers.
However, it does mean that you will typically have to look for pure Noopept powder if you want to buy in in the United States. This also means it is difficult to find Noopept for sale at any local supplement or nutrition stores.
Legality in Other Countries
It is important to check the laws of the country in which you reside, or to which you plan to travel, to verify whether Noopept is allowed to be bought, used or brought into that country.
Laws frequently change and lists of scheduled, banned or prohibited substances can change frequently. In some countries, nootropics may fall under the same laws and restrictions used for athletic-enhancing supplements.
In many countries, even if a drug is scheduled as a prescription drug, it may still be legal to import a small amount for personal use.

- Focus longer, clear brain fog & feel more motivated
- Boost energy, alertnes & memory
- Contains 12 safe and natural nootropic ingredients
At the time of this writing, Noopept is not specifically mentioned on the list of banned or prohibited substances in the UK and it is currently being bought and sold there. It does not require a prescription.
In Canada, Noopept does not have a Drug Identification Number (DIN) which means it is not registered under the FDA. This means you cannot import Noopept for resale or distribution. Noopept is not scheduled nor controlled in Canada and import for personal reasons should be fine.
In Australia, Noopept is not a schedule 4 prescription drug nor is it on the list of poisons. It is currently being sold within the country.
Summary
Noopept is legal in the USA for possession and use by an individual. In the UK, Canada and Australia, it is not specifically banned by name but it is recommended to check with the authorizing authority in each country as laws and regulations frequently change without notice.
Nootropics are not a widely understood supplement market. The concerns of many countries regarding anabolic steroids and their side effects may have an influence on laws and regulations of cognitive enhancing supplements and substances.
International doping scandals focused on performance enhancing drugs and methods used by well-known sport stars may also have a long-tail negative affect on nootropic regulation, now and in the future.
While Noopept is considered entirely safe and non-toxic to the human body, it remains in a legal grey area due to the unwillingness of the FDA to approve so-called smart drugs and cognitive enhancement supplements. However, you should rest assured that this nootropic is unlikely to cause negative side effects and buying Noopept is legal in most countries around the world.
