L-arginine 500mg tablets are available commercially for a variety of supplementation purposes.
L-arginine is an amino acid that is known to be valuable because of its capacities to strengthen the immune system, synthesize protein chains, manufacture mRNA and as a precursor to NO (nitric oxide).
Nitric oxide is known to act as a vasodilator, opening blood vessels wider so that more blood is displaced. This happens without resulting in dangerous blood pressure increases.
Due to this, L-arginine tablets are used by bodybuilders, athletes and those interested in improving their health and slowing down signs of aging.
It is also recommended by doctors for various therapeutic purposes including:
- Accommodating efficient cellular signaling;
- Enhancing the secretion of insulin;
- Modulating vascular tone;
- Maintaining proper airway tone;
- Helping to initiate peristalsis;
- Prevention of muscular wasting;
- Ensuring adequate blood flow during surgeries;
Aside from the medical uses of L-arginine 500mg tablets, it is also taken by those who want to enhance their sex live by increasing libido, fertility and improving erectile ability.

Bodybuilders and athletes utilize L-arginine supplements to increase their production of nitric oxide.
Higher levels of NO are believed to promote muscle mass and strength gains, while improving endurance and stamina during workouts.
Typically, this supplement will be paired with other compounds that are known to raise NO levels as a pre-workout product.
Nitric oxide demonstrates strong vasodilation effects. It acts on the endothelium (inside lining) of blood vessels, causing them to relax. With relaxation, the vessels are able to open up with increased diameter.
A diametrically wider blood vessel carries more blood, and has no dangerous associated increase in intravenous pressure. Many athletes report that the muscular “pumps” they get when supplementing with L-arginine last all day, keeping their muscles feeling taut, strong and hard.
As nitric acid opens the blood vessels and more blood is delivered more beneficial constituents of the blood are also delivered throughout the body. These constituents include protein chains, growth and repair hormones and nutrients.
By increasing the supply of these beneficial compounds, muscles are more likely to experience growth, strength increases and elevated endurance levels. Also, because of the surplus nutrients, repair and healing times are significantly diminished in between workouts.
L-arginine Pills for and Sexual Performance
Men and women both use L-arginine capsules to help them recover lost libido and enjoyment of sex.
When L-arginine is converted in NO, the resulting vasodilation effects occur throughout the body.
There is also increased blood flow to the genitalia. This can result in improved ability to initiate and sustain an erection as well as improved sensation and responsiveness to touch.
Finally, sexual endurance is reported to increase among men. Research is ongoing to determine the best dosages of L-arginine to take in order to maximize its benefits on sexual desire and performance.
In one placebo-based, double-blind study, 50 men with erectile dysfunction were monitored over 6 weeks. The treatment group was administered 5 grams of L-arginine daily. Results showed that one third of the treatment group showed signs of improvement in their ED symptoms whereas only 10% of the placebo group showed improvements.
In a similar study, the treatment group was administered only 2500 mg daily, but showed no particular improvements in ED symptoms. More clinical studies are required before any determinations as to optimal dosing for ED can be established.
L-Arginine Tablets for Women
In a separate study, 77 women with lacking libido were monitored over 4 weeks. The treatment group was administered five L-arginine 500mg tablets daily and the placebo group received only sugar tablets.
Additionally, the treatment group received supplemental damiana, ginkgo biloba and ginseng. The hypothesis was that the vasodilation effects of L-arginine would accentuate the effects of the other supplements as well as stimulating blood flow to the genitalia.
The results follow:
- 71% of the treatment group reported increased sexual desire;
- Clitoral sensation was increased in the treatment group, but not in the placebo group;
- The treatment group unanimously reported greater overall satisfaction with their sex lives;
- No side effects were noted in either test group;
- It is not yet clinically proven that taking L-Arginine on its own would be able to replicate the results generated;
