As we age, finding natural memory booster supplements to boost cognitive performance becomes more and more important.
But even before the seemingly inevitable age-related decline in memory function begins, it’s possible to fortify, amplify, and protect memory in significant ways.
From the foods we eat to the exercise we choose, we can positively impact brain chemistry and augment the physical processes behind memory formation.
In addition, targeted use of natural supplements can dramatically enhance the power to gather information, draw logical conclusions, and recall that information easily.
Here’s a review of the best comprehensive approaches to boosting memory on all fronts. By adopting some or all of these strategies into your lifestyle, excellent memory function can be yours, at any age.

- Focus longer, clear brain fog & feel more motivated
- Boost energy, alertnes & memory

Almost all supplements which are taken as memory boosters function via one of a few basic mechanisms.
Once you understand how these “smart pills” translate into quantifiable gains in memory, it becomes easier to select the appropriate compounds for your specific goals.
The most important way in which these pills work is by interacting with acetylcholine. This key neurotransmitter is critical for overall neural health. It prompts healthy growth of neurons and synapses, and improves communication along these channels, acting as a neuromodulator.
Acetylcholine’s interaction with muscarinic and nicotinic receptors is related to the formation of memory in the hippocampus and cortex.
The decay of acetylcholine’s functions over time are what result in age-related memory loss. Many famous memory supplements, such as the original nootropic Piracetam, work by boosting acetylcholine activity.
Food and Memory
Not all memory boosters are in pill form! There are actually many dietary sources of compounds which can improve or protect memory.
Greens – Foods which boost levels of the amino acid homocysteine can also prevent memory decline. These foods include leafy greens like spinach and kale.
Berries – In addition to offering neuro-protection via anti-oxidants, a substance known as flavonoids within berries can fight memory loss. Grape seed extract and green tea are other common sources of flavonoids.
Fish – Most seafood famously contains Omega 3 fatty acids. These fats improve the integrity of cell membranes, an important factor in the prevention of age-related decay and memory loss. Krill Oil is an excellent source.
The Healthy Body Healthy Mind Connection
A healthy body and healthy mind go hand in hand for many reasons, most importantly circulation. Improving blood flow to neural tissue delivers much-needed oxygen and nutrients to cells. This results in improved communication within the brain, and easier physical formation of long term memory.
In addition to daily conditioning with aerobic exercise, circulation can be improved via supplementation. Many natural vitamins, such as Pterostilbene, Resveratrol, and Picamilon raise overall circulation in the body, via vasodilation.
One supplement in particular, the plant-based herbal remedy Vincamine and its synthesized relative Vinpocetine, directly target brain circulation. For this reason, circulation supplements are often included in memory and cognition power stacks like Alpha Brain.
Memory Boosters for Seniors
As we age, lowered levels of acetylcholine couple with damage and decay in neural tissues to impair memory function. Tissues become more rigid and less plastic, making it physically harder for new synaptic connections and new memories to form.
Left unchecked, these conditions can lead to degenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease. There are various memory boosting supplements that provide specific benefits for age-related memory issues.
Noopept, sometimes considered one of the racetam class of nootropic supplements, stimulates the release of nerve growth factor, which can protect against and possibly even reverse the impact of decaying neural structures.
In general, any supplement which activates acetylcholine, or its pre-cursor choline, will provide neuro-protective benefits for aging minds. This type of protection is most effective before any decay has begun. For this reason, a daily regimen of memory-enhancing nootropics is recommended long before symptoms of memory loss appear.
Improving Memory with Daily Supplements
The most well-known cognitive enhancers and brain boosters on the market are racetams. This group of compounds was the first widely used nootropic supplement, and includes various supplements of varying strength. Piracetam works by activating nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. It boosts overall tissue health and signaling ability in the brain.
Many people incorporate this supplement into a daily routine for all of its cognitive benefits, which do include enhancing memory function. For more specific memory improvement, the combo stack product CILTEP (Chemically Induced Long Term Potentiation) employs herbal nootropics Forskolin and Artichoke Extract to raise levels of cAMP, a messenger involved in the establishment and fortification of the synaptic pathways which comprise long term memory.
The Best Memory Boosters to Buy
In review, the most important factor in memory boosters seems to relate to interaction with natural neurochemicals like acetylcholine and cAMP. The idea is to keep neural structures nimble and adaptable, while giving them the raw elements they need to forge lasting synaptic pathways between neurons.
Supplements which activate these processes, such as Piracetam and Forskolin, are a natural way to preserve and protect memory function over the long term.

I started taking a high DHA fish oil supplement- taking about 1g of DHA per day and the results on my long term memory appear to be great. N=1.
