With the number of people using anti-anxiety and depression medications in the US, there can be no doubt that mood enhancement is a huge area of concern these days.
We are all working harder than ever before and stress levels are high whether you are at home, school or work. All of this stress can lead to a lack of energy, motivation, excitement and satisfaction in life.
But there are mood enhancing supplements that can help restore your balance, improve your mood and promote feelings of well-being. Most of these supplements work by modulating Dopamine and Serotonin neurotransmitters within the brain to address chemical imbalances.
In other cases, simply increasing the blood flow and oxygen uptake to the brain can be highly beneficial, leading to not only better mood but also improved motivation and energy levels. Here are a few of your options for mood enhancing supplements that actually work.

- Promotes feelings of well-being
- Reduces feelings of stress and anxiousness
- Supports motivation and positivity

This nootropic supplement is also known as Griffonia Seed Extract and it comes from a woody climbing shrub native to West and Central Africa. It is a naturally occurring precursor to tryptophan, an essential amino acid.
One of the ways that 5-HTP works is by playing an essential role in the formation of the neurotransmitter Serotonin in the brain. As this happens, it also improves overall brain and neuronal communication.
It is during this conversion process that the supplement has an effect on mood formation. Not only does 5-HTP powder reduce stress and anxiety levels, but a number of users even report that supplementation can curb the severity of panic attacks. This is due to 5-HTP being able to influence areas of the brain which are responsible for impulse control.
L-Tyrosine (NALT):
NALT, or N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine, is an acetylated version of the non-essential amino acid Tyrosine. While the body is capable of producing this supplement from other amino acids, the NALT form is much more easily absorbed and readily useful to the body.
What makes this mood enhancing supplement so special is the fact that it can be used in the production of the neurotransmitter Dopamine. From there, the Dopamine is then used to build Norepinephrine.
Dopamine has a well examined role in helping to balance out moods helping us to relax. It even is useful in created melanin which is consider to be a neuronal pigment that helps to protect the neurons by removing toxins as well as chelating harmful heavy metals like mercury and lead. Norepinephrine is closely linked with adrenaline and is one of the hormones used in our brains to assign focus to certain tasks.
With increased Dopamine and Norepinephrine, you will see substantially improved mental energy and be able to fight off some of the malaise and dullness that you can feel when suffering from depression or anhedonia. So, the next time you are feel down, try one of these nootropic mood enhancers for a natural ‘high’.
Phenibut:
Phenibut is a very interesting mood enhancing supplement with a lot of potential benefits. Originally developed in Russia during the Cold War, it has only received attention from the Western health community been within the last decade or so.
This cognitive enhancer is basically a derivative of the neurotransmitter GABA. The creators added a phenyl group of molecules to GABA which allows this compound to easily cross over the blood-brain barrier (natural GABA cannot do this on its own).
GABA is the the chief inhibitory neurotransmitter within the human brain/body. This helps by serving to limit and control the level of brain excitability through the opening potassium channels with the neurons. Phenibut effectively prevents over-excitability of your neurons which is the neurological cause of anxiety.
In other words, it stops your neurons from firing off excessive signals so that you can relax. This is one of the most effective supplements for enhancing overall mood, sleep quality, and a reduction in stress levels.
Aniracetam:
This is one of the most popular of all Nootropic (meaning ‘towards the mind’) supplements, noted for being a more potent derivative of Piracetam. Aniracetam has been around for quite some time and is well-known for its ability to boost mood, and reduce levels of stress and anxiety.
The first method of action for this supplement is by increasing Glutamate uptake in the brain through the stimulation of a number of neurotransmitter receptor sites. This leads to heightened mental energy making it easier to get motivated, concentrate, focus, study, and even stay alert and awake when fatigue sets in.
Aniracetam supplements are also believed to influence Acetylcholine activity within the brain. This neurotransmitter is involved in a number of different cognitive processes, allowing your neurons to communicate more effectively.
It is also thought to stimulate the release of Dopamine and Serotonin, leading to a number anxiolytic and ‘feel good’ effects. Safe for long-term use, this supplement will help you achieve relaxation, increased productivity and even better sleep patterns.

Why are these here and not SAMe which is way stronger?
SAMe would definitely be another great one to look into. Here is a link for anyone interested in learning more. I’ve used it in the past and haven’t had as robust effects from it but there are certainly lots of positive reviews on the supplement as well from people it has worked for!
Question is it safe to combine Munuca Pruriens and 5 – HTP or Munuca Pruriens and L tyrosine or even Munuca Pruriens and 5 HTP and L tyrosine together?
Has either of them any interactions with ecdysterone, leucine, creatine or beta alanine or taurine?
Thx
Hey Richard,
I’ve combined Mucuna with 5-HTP and it is safe so long as you are not taking excess dosages. I wouldn’t recommend combining mucuna and tyrosine since both of these can increase dopaminergic activity. Most people will use either tyrosine or mucuna, but not both.
I hope that helps to answer your question!
Thanks nootriment redactie,
I put my munuca in my protein shake and my protein shake has tyrosine in it and i also use tyrosine creme so yeah i hope that works out…
