Noopept (N-phenylacetyl-L-prolyglycine ethyl ester, GVS-111) is a nootropic drug that is closely related to the racetam family of cognitive enhancers.
It is also known as Omberacetam. This compound is not considered to be a racetam because it does not have a 2-pyrrolidone core.
It is a peptide derivative of Piracetam, which was the very first nootropic agent synthesized. Noopept is significantly more powerful than Piracetam and has a reported 1000x greater potency.
Whereas Piracetam is used in dosages of 4,800 mg per day to produce therapeutic benefits, Noopept dosages are typically between 5 – 30 mg per day.
This also makes this one of the most cost-effective cognitive enhancers to buy. The cost per dose with Noopept powder or capsules is lower compared to products like Oxiracetam, Pramiracetam or Aniracetam.
Noopept is a pro-drug for the neuropeptide cycloprolylglycine, which exists naturally in the brain. It has been shown to work by modulating acetylcholine as well as AMPA receptors involved in memory and learning.
One of the pharmacological effects of Noopept is to increase acetylcholine levels in the brain and amplify or augment cholinergic signal transmission. In addition to its role in memory consolidation, acetylcholine is also important for maintaining attention, ability to focus and information processing.
The subjective effects of this nootropic drug are described as being mildly stimulating and mood enhancing. In research studies on animals, it appears to have anxiolytic mechanisms, which means it may alleviate anxiousness.
Noopept is also reported to enhance the perception of colors and auditory sensations. Some research studies suggest benefits for sleep, behavioral regulation and quality of life in patients with Cognitive Dysfunction or Senile Dementia.
In Russia and some parts of Eastern Europe, this drug is prescribed to treat Alzheimer’s Disease, brain injuries, stroke, and degenerative disorders. It has neuroprotective effects and can inhibit oxidative damage linked to the development of Alzheimer’s disease.
Research in animals also shows that it enhances blood flow and oxygen delivery to brain tissue, which can have a positive effect on wakefulness, cellular energy metabolism as well as general brain function.
So far the use of Noopept in humans has not been well-studied outside of Russia. There are currently 4 clinical trials involving human subjects listed on PubMed.
These studies suggest it is well-tolerated and has a low risk of serious side effects if used properly. However, more research is needed to understand the potential medicinal benefits of this nootropic drug as well as its long-term safety.
Currently, Noopept has not been approved as a Therapeutic Good for sale in Australia. However, Australians are still able to import it for their personal use, subject to a few limited restrictions.

- 1000x more potent than Piracetam
- Supports memory, focus and mood
- Boosts mental alertness and energy
Legal Status
There is significant demand for nootropics and smart drugs in Australia. While it is difficult to buy many of these products domestically, the Australian government provides consumers a way to import many of these products without a prescription.
If a substance is considered a therapeutic good and is not a controlled substance, then residents of Australia are free to purchase that product and import it for personal consumption.
Noopept is not considered a controlled substance because it is not listed on the Standard for the Uniform Scheduling of Medicines and Poisons (more commonly known as the Poisons Standard).
Drugs that are found on Schedule 4 or Schedule 8 of this classification scheme require a prescription to buy and may be subject to other restrictions. For example, Piracetam, Modafinil and Phenibut are all currently regulated as Schedule 4 substances.
Because Noopept is not listed on Schedule 4, it is legal to buy, possess and to use without a doctor’s prescription. This also means you can buy it internationally to ship to your address in Australia.
Many nootropic users report being able to buy this product from European vendors or from websites based in the USA and mailing it to their homes without issue. While the shipping may be slower, purchases from these locations are reliably able to pass through the border without issue.

- Focus longer, clear brain fog & feel more motivated
- Boost energy, alertnes & memory
- Contains 12 safe and natural nootropic ingredients
How to Import Noopept
There are no special steps required to ship Noopept across the Australian border. If you buy it online from an offshore pharmacy or supplement store, it should be accepted through customs without issue.
There is no paperwork required to accompany your order and you do not need a prescription on file. In very rare cases you may be contacted by customs officials for more information, but you can generally avoid this by buying within the stated limits.
The government regulations that allow Australians to legally import Noopept and other unscheduled smart drugs are laid out by the Department of Health in their Personal Importation Scheme.
Orders are subject to a few restrictions. You must be importing the product for your own consumption or for a member of your immediate family. You are not allowed to resell or distribute the product you bring into the country.
Importing in commercial quantities is also not allowed. Generally, you should buy less than $200 at a time and less than a three-month supply. While you may be able to get discounts from wholesale suppliers, buying in bulk increases the likelihood that your package gets returned to the seller or confiscated at the border.
There is also a maximum amount that you are able to import in a given year. According to the TGA guidance, “the total quantity of the goods imported within a 12-month period [can] not exceed 15 months supply of the goods (for medicines, at the maximum dose recommended by the manufacturer).”
According to the one US-based vendor, PeakNootropics, “We ship many orders to Australia, and the vast majority of our orders arrive without any problem. However Australia has some opaque laws for importing nootropics and supplements, and occasionally there are problems.”
PeakNootropics says that problems can occur when an order contains multiple nootropic products including Schedule 4 substances. For example, if you buy Noopept at the same time as the prescription-only drugs Piracetam, Modafinil or Adrafinil your order may be stopped by customs officials.
Phenibut is not currently a Schedule 4 substance, but on June 7, 2017 the Australian government announced that they were considering adding it to this schedule. Following this, the Australia Border Police began pre-emptively treating it as a drug requiring a prescription and banned its import.
What about buying from local websites based in Australia? There are companies that sell Noopept powder from locations in Australia. Note that these companies must specify that their products are intended for research purposes only and cannot label for human consumption.
Noopept For Sale Online
Noopept is sold in three forms: bulk powder, oral tablets or capsules and as a liquid spray. In pill form, it is typically sold in dosages of 10 to 20 mg.
Some companies sell it as a Noopept-Choline complex, which combines two ingredients in one product. One brand provides a 20 mg Noopept with 180 mg Choline Bitartrate complex supplement.
Complexes and multi-ingredient supplements have the advantage of convenience. However, they do not allow the flexibility of using different dosage ratios or different forms of Choline. Some people have negative reactions to choline supplements and may not want to use combination products.
The bulk powder is the most cost-effective form to purchase. This nootropic requires a very small dose and it is easy to accidentally take too much. It is important to purchase microspoons and a digital scale if you intend to use nootropics in powder form.
A number of nootropics stores are able to ship Noopept to residents of Australia. Some of the vendors you can buy from over-the-counter include:
- AbsorbHealth
- Ceretropic
- Intellimeds
- NootropicsDepot
- NootropicsCity
- Nootropics.EU
- NootropicSource
- Nutrivitashop
- PeakNootropics
- Pure Nootropics
