Noopept is one of the most exciting and powerful Nootropics to hit the market in a long time.
As a derivative member of the Racetam family, the supplement has a very low level of toxicity and is well-tolerated by almost everyone.
It poses significant benefits for multiple dimensions of cognition including enhanced learning, reasoning and memory.
Since it is much more potent than most of the other Racetam supplements, you will only need to take a very small dose in order for it to be effective, making it very affordable as well.
Many users and potential users wonder exactly how Noopept works, whether there are any side effects, and what the potential short-term and long-term benefits might be.
The following article will take you through some of the most common Noopept effects and mechanisms of action.

- Supports memory, focus & mood
- Boosts mental alertness & energy
- Increases BDNF & promotes brain health

Most people who are thinking about buying Noopept start their investigation by focusing the effects of this supplement without understanding exactly how it work.
While the exact mechanism of action is still not entirely understood, it does appear to function similarly to Piracetam (the original Nootropic) in many ways.
Once ingested orally, the supplement is absorbed through the GI tract and then eventually crosses the blood-brain barrier.
It reaches maximum concentrations within the brain in about 15 minutes, so it is also pretty fast acting.
Even when compared to Piracetam, this supplement has a very high oral bioavailability rate. Some studies indicate this may be as high as 90 percent. This means that almost all of the Noopept taken will end up in circulation, reaching the brain and optimizing your cognitive processes.
Once in the brain, Noopept reacts strongly with the Glutamatergic AMPA receptor sites. It binds to these receptors site and then helps to prevent the break down of the neurotransmitter Glutamate.
While other basic Nootropics such as Piracetam only have weak effects on Glutamate, this supplement appears to exert a much stronger influence. As it binds to these sites, Glutamate is allowed to move between brain cells more easily, helping to increase a number of cognitive benefits including enhanced brain plasticity.
Glutamate is the most prevalent neurotransmitter in the brain and when you increase the efficiency with which it works you can dramatically improve the communications and computations that occur between neurons.

- 1000x more potent than Piracetam
- Supports memory, focus and mood
- Boosts mental alertness and energy
Possible Noopept Side Effects:
There are very few, if any, observed negative side effects related to Noopept. In fact, the evidence indicates that it might help to prevent headaches, which is a side effect commonly associated with many of the Nootropics. This is possibly due to the fact that Noopept influences Glutamate more directly.
Since a very small dose is typically required to show effects, Noopept does not ordinarily show any kind of gastrointestinal distress or other stomach issues. There is, however, a small chance of developing an allergic reaction. Additionally, a small number of users have reported some irritability when using this supplement for an extended period of time.
If high doses are used, there are some other potential side effects. In such cases, it is possible that much less of the supplement will be able to be absorbed into the bloodstream and this could lead to nausea and stomach upset. Other reported high dose side effects are insomnia and elevated blood pressure.
Short-Term Noopept Effects:
There are also some significant short-term benefits associated with Noopept. A number of studies have shown it to be effective at improving memory, learning capacity, and recall. The intensity of these effects will vary from person to person, with some people being able to recall dreams vividly and others simply feeling much more productive with increased energy and motivation.
Noopept also may help to increase focus, concentration, and attention span. This can further enhance the effects of increased memory and learning capacity, especially for students who are studying for long periods of time.
Noopept is also great for verbal fluency and linguistic processing, an important effect for anyone in social settings who wants to be able to think on their feet more quickly.

- Focus longer, clear brain fog & feel more motivated
- Boost energy, alertnes & memory
- Contains 12 safe and natural nootropic ingredients
Long-Term Noopept Effects:
There are also a number of potentially long-term effects associated with Noopept.
In the area of memory, this supplement is thought to have a strong positive effect on the later stages of the memory process including memory consolidation and retrieval.
Both of these are thought to be more critical in the area of long-term memory development as opposed to short-term working memory.
This supplement is also very neuroprotective in nature. Not only does it act as an anti-oxidant, helping to rid the brain of calcium and other toxins, but it can defend against poisons and apoptosis in the neurons.
It may even be able to reverse damage done due to excessive alcohol consumption. Some people use Noopept supplements for anti-aging benefits and to potentially reduce the effects of cognitive decline with age.
Noopept has also been shown to increase levels of Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) and Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF). The NGF is believed to be responsible for influencing the growth and survival of certain types of neurons, while BDNF also encourages specialization of new neurons and synapses.
It is these developments, particularly the new synapses which are thought to be very important in long-term memory, overall intelligence, and cognitive health.
It may also help to form new connections and improve the overall level of communication between both hemispheres of the brain.
The positive effects of Noopept most certainly outweigh the negatives and you will find this an excellent addition to any brain supplement regimen. Find out more about purchasing Noopept powder in bulk here.

Possible error: “it can serve to help defend against other poisons like apoptosis in the neurons”
Apoptosis is not a poison, just the term used to define cell (neuron) death. Apoptosis could be caused by a toxin but is also part of the natural and healthy process of cell regeneration.
Thanks for catching that Patrick! It should say “and” not “like”
Some people have reported short term memory loss from Noopept even at the recommended dosages.
Hi Grant,
Here is a link to the discussion on Reddit regarding users that have reported diminished short-term memory from taking Noopept: http://www.reddit.com/r/Nootropics/comments/1cf5bu/noopept_first_experience_and_short_term_memory/
There is always a chance for individualized reactions from using nootropics.
