Probiotic suppositories are used for vaginal yeast infections, bacterial infections of BV (bacterial vaginosis) and to help prevent recurring urinary tract infections.
The benefit of using a suppository is that the total dosage of probiotics goes to the source of the vaginal flora imbalance without having to be digested.
It is during digestion that a large amount of the probiotics live cells are destroyed by stomach acid.
However, research suggests that oral probiotic supplementation can also be helpful in the prevention of yeast infections and UTIs in women.

The normal ph of the vagina is an acidic 3.5 to 4.5 ph.
When the flora level is out of balance, the symptoms include a vaginal discharge, itching, irritation and a fishy odor.
Bad bacteria multiply rapidly in a more alkaline ph and once established, this bacteria is difficult to get rid of in sufficient quantities.
Reoccurring infections may then become a problem. Courses of antibiotics, douching, infections and spermicides all change the ph balance in the vagina.
Probiotics can be effective in restoring balance and preventing certain vaginal infections. A study published in the May 2011 issue of Clinical Infections Diseases found Lactobacillus crispatus vaginal suppositories usage helped prevent recurring urinary tract infections.
The study found women who have frequent recurring UTI’s had smaller amounts of the good bacteria from the lactobacillus strain. Treatment with the suppositories helped to restore the flora balance to a healthy level.
In addition to using probiotic suppositories, to help prevent getting yeast infections it is best to wear clothes that breathe. Clothing that doesn’t breathe, such as pantyhose without a cotton liner, nylon panties and tight jeans create heat and moisture. These are ideal conditions for the yeast to grow.
Frequent use of vaginal douches or sprays kills off the good bacteria, which can lead to yeast infections. These preparations can also cause vaginal irritations. Improving the immune system through diet, regular exercise and getting enough rest is also recommended.

Are Probiotic Suppositories Safe?
A doctor should be consulted if the symptoms of the yeast infection last for more than 7 days. If there is any pain or sensitivity to touch in the abdomen and pelvis area this requires medical attention.
If there are symptoms of bleeding, chills, nausea or fever, medical attention should also be sought. A doctor should also be consulted if there are changes to the color of the vaginal discharge or if experiencing frequent and painful urination.
Irritation has been reported in the reviews of some probiotics suppository products. The supplement product should be discontinued if any symptoms of itching or burning from the suppository occur. Probiotics are not recommended for people with immune suppressive conditions or those with surgical wounds.
People with short bowel syndrome or those who are using a catheter should avoid this product. In laboratory studies L. acidophilus was shown to speed up the metabolism of sulfasalazine (used to treat ulcerative colitis).
If taking probiotic treatments with antibiotics, it is advised to wait for two hours after taking the antibiotic or to use the probiotic treatment two hours before taking the antibiotic. This helps prevent the antibiotic from killing off the live healthy bacteria cultures.
Vaginal probiotics suppository have provided relief for many women who have recurring bacterial, yeast and urinary tract infections. They can be used together with a diet rich in Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium probiotic foods as well as oral supplements.

There are too many Probiotics products in the market for gut or Vagina.
I am surprised why the author didn’t mention the strength of products for each strain ?
At least you have yo mention the normal percentage of each strain in vaginal then be able to choose the right product.
Please let us have the count (strength) of normal microbial flora for each straight enable us to protect our body by choosing the right probiotic derivatives or dosage form.
Can i use probiotic oral as a suppositories and insert it in my vagina and also taken orally in same time?bcoz all methods and antibiotic doents work to me b4 this.
Hello Xoxo,
This is not recommended as oral probiotics may not be formulated in the appropriate way for use in the treatment of urogenital issues. There can be differences in terms of bacterial balance and appropriate packaging materials for suppositories versus oral capsules. It is recommended to consult with a doctor to find the right product for you.
bonjour, je vous rappelle que le terme “suppositoire” est destiné aux introductions anales. Pour le vagin, on utilise le terme d’ovule. merci de corriger votre vocabulaire pour ne pas induire les lecteurs en erreur
