Pure kidney bean extract (phaseolamin) can be beneficial for weight loss, appetite control and regulating blood sugar.
Research shows a strong link between taking phaseolamin and weight management, improved diabetes and prediabetes symptoms, enhanced cardiovascular health and possible actions against colon cancer.
Pure kidney bean extracts are derived from the Phaseolus vulgaris plant; a legume also commonly called cannellini beans. This supplement is noted for its ability to block some of the carbohydrates we eat from being digested and absorbed into the body.
In other words, it may be able to stop some of the calories we eat from actually being incorporated into our bodies. This can make it easier to lose weight, especially when incorporated with a nutrition and healthy diet, sensible portions and exercise.
Not enough large-scale clinical trials have been completed to date to accurately assess the complete therapeutic value of pure kidney bean supplements.

Pure Kidney Bean Extract: How It Works
Related Topics
Pure Kidney Bean Extract works first and foremost by inhibiting the digestion of some carbohydrate-based foods that we eat.
Carbohydrates include bread, potatoes, oats, corn, bananas and any grains. They form a significant part of the typical Western diet.
When carbohydrates enter the mouth, they start to get broken down by a digestive enzyme called alpha-amylase. It digests starchy food sources down into simple sugars. Amylase is responsible for breaking down complex carbohydrates into simpler sugars called oligosaccharides.
These oligosaccharides are then further broken down to disaccharides like lactose and maltose that can be absorbed into the body and used for energy.
When the complex carbohydrates are completely digested, they have been converted to monosaccharides like glucose, and are used in one of a few ways.
They can be used instantly for cellular energy. They can be converted to glycogen and stored away in the liver. Or they can be converted to triglycerides (fats) and stored either in the liver, in the plasma or in adipocytes.
Results of Carb Blocking Supplements
Pure kidney bean extract supplements inhibit the carbohydrate digestion process by limiting the action of alpha amylase. This prevents some of the carbohydrates that you eat from being broken down properly.
The result is an inhibition of the creation of oligosaccharides; some of the calories in these foods are essentially blocked from being taken in by your body. This means that some of the carbohydrate calories pass through the digestive system without leaving their full caloric traces behind.
The phaseolamin contained in pure kidney bean extracts is an amylase inhibitor; specifically alpha-amylase inhibitor isoform 1 (AI1). It slows the action of alpha-amylase in the mouth, and then again in the small intestines, to limit the digestion of the starchy foods ingested into the system.
Notably, other constituents of the starchy foods including vitamins, minerals and other beneficial phytonutrients, are still assimilated and used to benefit the body. By limiting the number of carbohydrate calories metabolized and absorbed into the circulatory system, weight loss is accommodated over time.
Clinical Proof
There have been several clinical studies completed addressing Phaseolus vulgaris’s capacities to induce weight loss and treat various symptoms, conditions and diseases.
In more than a dozen published trials on a specific pure kidney bean extract called Phase 2, the following data was generated concerning phaseolamin supplementation of 3000mg daily:
- Weight loss and weight maintenance capacities were significantly higher in treatment groups than in placebo groups.
- Treatment group subjects reported less cravings for starchy/sweet foods during and after the trials.
- Waist size and fat mass was decreased in the treatment groups.
- In longer studies, triglyceride and LDL cholesterol levels lessened considerably.
- In no studies were any negative side effects noted or reported.
Pure Kidney Bean Extract for Health
Supplementing with a pure kidney bean extract seems to be effective as an adjunct therapy for weight loss and for helping to maintain healthy weight levels in the long run.
It is said to decrease the appetite and specifically to decrease cravings for carbohydrate-rich foods. It also helps to prevent spikes in blood sugar that occur after eating carb-heavy meals. This is known as post-prandial blood glucose levels.
If your post-prandial glucose levels never get too high, this prevents your body from releasing too much insulin. While insulin is important for transporting blood sugar into your cells, it also can contribute to obesity in excess levels. Insulin stimulates lipogenesis (the production of fat) through two different enzymatic pathways in the body.
By preventing insulin levels from getting too high, you can significantly reduce weight gain even after a high-calorie meal. In this manner, Phaseolus vulgaris may be effective for lessening the risk factors associated with obesity, and therefore various other diseases and/or conditions.
By reducing the amount of carbohydrates that get stored as triglycerides throughout the body, phaseolamin helps to improve blood lipid profiles. With regular supplementation, the risks for developing causal conditions like hypertriglyceridemia are significantly decreased.
This is believed to lead to general improvements in cardiovascular health, as well as lessening the probability for developing obesity. Further, obesity is a causal factor for many preventable diseases.
Pure Kidney Bean Extracts Safety
The phaseolamin in pure white kidney bean extracts is natural, non-toxic and known to be free of any lasting negative side effects. It is possible to experience flatulence, bloating, stomach upset, indigestion, burping and/or diarrhea for a few days after beginning supplementation. These results always pass relatively quickly.
Because phaseolamin is known to naturally lower blood glucose levels, and to prevent sharp blood-sugar spikes after carb-heavy meals, it is not recommended for use in conjunction with OTC or prescribed medications for managing symptoms of diabetes mellitus type ii or reactive hypoglycemia (prediabetes).
This could cause excessive drops in blood glucose levels and in extreme cases could result in hypoglycemic coma and/or death.
Pregnant women and those with nursing babies should not use Phaseolus vulgaris supplements as there is insufficient clinical data concerning its safety for fetuses and newborns. If you are considering pure kidney bean extract supplementation, it is best to talk it over with your doctor first.
