Stablon is one of the trade names for a drug called Tianeptine that has nootropic tendencies. This product is used for treating major depressive episodes and social anxiety, but users have also noticed that it produces certain cognitive enhancement effects.
According to reviews, Stablon is attributed with heightened clarity of thought and may improve mental performance in areas like memory, learning, and comprehension of abstract relationships.
This drug is considered to be a tricyclic type of anti-depressant, so named due to its structure which contains three rings of atoms. It serves the purpose of enhancing the re-uptake, or re-absorption, of Serotonin within the brain, which actually decreases the amount of circulating Serotonin. For this reason it is also considered to be a selective Serotonin re-uptake enhancer (SSRE).

Although it is true that the mechanisms of action for Stablon are not entirely understood, it is generally accepted that this drug is capable of crossing over the blood-brain barrier and entering directly into the central nervous system.
As a SSRE, this drug actually works in a method that is counter to most of the current anti-depressants on the market. Stablon increase the rate of absorption of Serotonin, which is an important inhibitory neurotransmitter that regulates mood, relaxation and the ability to initiate sleep.
The result is less stimulation of the Serotonin neuroreceptors, which seems to have an uplifting effect on mood and feelings of well-being. Another possible method of action is due to Stablon’s relative lack of sedation.
It also has a relatively short duration and does not appear to affect the cardiovascular system in any meaningful way, suggesting that this may be a safe treatment for use in elderly patients.
It has also been suggested that Stablon works by enhancing the extracellular concentrations of Dopamine in selected brain and neuronal pathways. It might even modulate, or change, several types (D2 and D3) of Dopamine receptors.

In addition to this, there also appears to be some effect on both the AMPA and NMDA receptors which respond to the neurotransmitter Glutamate. This makes Stablon similar to nootropics such as Aniracetam, Noopept and Sunifiram which increase Glutamate activity. Much of the nootropic interest in Stablon centers around this mechanism of action.
Glutamate is one of the fundamental signal carriers in the brain related to memory storage and Long-Term Potentiation. Increased Glutamate receptor sensitivity could indeed cause the enhancements to memory, concentration and intellect noted with Stablon usage.
Stablon Benefits:
The primary benefit of this drug is in the treatment of depression. In fact, this was the purpose for its development and it is currently being used for exactly this purpose in France and a number of other European countries.
Stablon does not appear to cause any type of addiction or tolerance and it is also not considered to be a sedative.
Stablon works in a method that is opposite many other types of anti-depressants. Instead of limiting the amount of Serotonin which is taken up by the brain, it actually serves to enhance it.
This is a more natural process that results in the body being stimulated on a natural level to expel the excess neurotransmitter. It also helps to reduce anxiety and levels of stress.
There may be further benefits associated with this drug. For example, some evidence suggests that Stablon may be useful in treating or controlling a wide range of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders, social anxiety, and even eating disorders.
There is even some evidence to say that this could lead to medications for the treatment of additional neuro-degenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s disease, cerebral aging and multiple sclerosis.
Stablon Dosage:
The generally accepted dosage for this drug is a single 12.5 mg pill or tablet, taken two or three times a day. These split doses are important to maintain a consistent supply of the active ingredients in your system since it has a very short duration of action.
It is advisable to start out with a single pill or maybe even half of a tablet to judge its effects on your individual biochemistry. For more precise dosing instructions, it is imperative that you ask your doctor about using this drug safely.
Stablon Side Effects:
Stablon has been studied on both a short-term (3 months) and long-term (12 months) basis. While it is equally well-tolerated and is very safe there are some side effects which have become associated with its use.
Most of these are relatively mild and include dry mouth, constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, low blood pressure, insomnia, and perhaps vivid dreams. In some individuals, side effects can be very persistent, necessitating the replacement of this drug with another treatment.
Stablon Review:
Stablon is first and foremost a mood enhancing drug, though it does offer some smart drug effects as well. The drug is reportedly used as an off-label study pill because it can heighten alertness, concentration, mental clarity and information processing.
Experiences posted only say that this nootropic leads to better memory function as well as improved critical thinking skills. These effects may be the result of Stablon’s effects on dopamine and glutamate transmission in the brain.
That being said, not enough is known about the cognitive effects of Stablon and so far trials have only looked at it for anxiety, depression and stress relief.

Used it to break asthma attack. Worked very well in combination with inhaler. Only tried it once so far but lessened attack to 15 min instead of usual 45 min or more. Remained clear headed through out attack and returned to normal much much faster than just inhaler. Strongly recommend asthmatics try this at least once. Of course it won’t be effective on everyone and you should do your own research before trying.
There are recent reports that tianeptine is no longer considered an SSRE — and that it actually has no impact on serotonin. Wondering if your summary is outdated, or if you stand by it.
I use the SNRI duloxetine (for fibromyalgia pain), so I am very interested in whether tianeptine is compatible. Common sense seems to suggest not mixing an SSRE with an SNRI.
It’s an opioid agonist:
