While many nootropic users are satisfied with the boost to their cognition provided by supplements like Piracetam or Aniracetam, there is a growing class of users who want to push the limits of what their brains can do.
These individuals are united in their sense of adventure when it comes to testing some of the newer nootropics to hit the market in recent years.
You will often see them participating in forums like Longecity or Bulletproof Exec or find them reading the latest neuroscience journals to learn the results from newly published clinical trials or Phase 2 studies.
There is some inherent risk in trying supplements with so little research history, but there is also the thrill of being on the cutting edge of neuropharmacology research. Fortunately, if you are looking for the strongest nootropics available, you do not have to turn to experimental drugs to get the results you want.

Within the past decade, there has been an explosion of Nootropic research and different brain supplements to hit the market.
Some of these like Noopept (said to be 1000x stronger than Piracetam) have already been adopted by the general population and received thousands of positive reviews online.
Others like Sunifiram (also 1000x stronger than Piracetam) are just starting to explode in popularity, but show very promising early results.
Still others such as Phenylpiracetam (60x stronger than Piracetam) might not have the same astronomic potency levels, but are described as providing very noticeable effects due to how they influence your physiology and neurology.
So what is the strongest nootropic agent currently available if you want to maximize the boost to your brainpower?
If we consider the answer solely on the objective measure of concentration, then Noopept, Sunifiram and Unifiram would likely all come in at the top. The effective dosages for these three nootropics are much smaller than the amounts you need with other supplements like Aniracetam, Oxiracetam or Pramiracetam.
However, this is really only one dimension of the questions of what the strongest nootropic is. We might also want to consider the fact that there are different subsets within the family of nootropics and while some are very strong in certain areas, others may be stronger in different areas of cognition.
Equally important is the subjective metric of how powerfully the effects of these compounds is felt. For example, some people do not respond as strongly to Noopept as they do to Pramiracetam, Phenylpiracetam, Modafinil or Adrafinil. Even though these latter substances require much larger dosages, some people say these nootropics are stronger because they give more perceivable benefits.
We will set aside this debate of how to actually determine what the strongest nootropic is for the moment and instead catalog some of the substances generally recognized as providing the most powerful effects.
Hopefully, this information helps you pick the right supplement to use for your goals and needs, but remember that stronger does not always mean better and you may want to start with a less concentrated supplement like Piracetam if you have not had experience with cognitive enhancers in the past.
How Nootropics Work:
Nootropics work in a number of different ways to contribute to better cognitive functioning and higher mental energy levels.
There is such diversity within the class of nootropics that it would be impossible to pinpoint one mechanism of action or pathway to describe how all of these supplements work. We can broadly say that they work by modulation or increasing production of different neurotransmitters or hormones within the brain.
For supplements in the Racetam class, the primary neurotransmitter involved is Acetylcholine. This neurochemical is involved in many of the processes related to memory formation, learning, and even overall cognition.
Supplements that belong to the category of Ampakines (like Sunifiram or Unifiram) all work on the Glutamate neurotransmitter leading to greater synaptic plasticity, working memory and reasoning skills.
Another powerful neurotransmitter affected by certain Nootropics is GABA, the chief inhibitory signaler within the body. This chemical is responsible for helping the brain to calm down and relax. The same goes for chemicals like Dopamine, Norepinephrine, and even Serotonin.
Some Nootropics provide both long-term as well as short-term benefits by improving many of the underlying factors related to brain health. Certain compounds exhibit neuroprotective properties which means they may help to remove toxins from the brain cells or act as anti-oxidants.
Other supplements can actually cause the formation of new neurons or just improve maintenance of existing neurons and synapses. A good example of this is substances that help build new cell membranes and promote better cell membrane fluidity. By repairing damaged cells, you may improve neuronal communication and even prevent signs of aging down the road.

Overall Nootropics Benefits:
Depending on the particular nootropic you are interested in using, there are a variety of different benefits you may experience both related to cognition as well as other more general benefits.
As far as cognitive enhancement goes, these effects include an increase in memory, learning capacity, and even recall speed. Some supplements will also improve logical and spatial reasoning leading to better decision making.
The increased blood flow, glucose and oxygen uptake to the brain can also cause a significant boost in both mental and physical energy. There may even be a lengthening of attention spans, an increase in the ability to focus and concentrate, and even the experience of thinking at a faster rate.
Nootropics of all different sorts have been investigated over the years for use in clinical settings. Some of these compounds – like Centrophenoxine – are already being used as anti-aging drugs to protect the brain from damage and improve overall health of this vital organ. There is substantial evidence to suggest that certain supplements may help to reverse damage done from excessive alcohol consumption.
Another key area of research into Nootropics is in the treatment of ADD to dementia, mental retardation, and even Alzheimer’s disease. As the problems of memory loss and cognitive decline with aging become more prominent, we can expect these supplements to continue to receive a lot of research attention and effort.
Nootropics Legal Status
Currently, most Nootropics are not regulated by the FDA within the United States. This does not mean they are illegal. In fact, by and large, anyone can legally buy and use these supplements.
All that unregulated means is that most of these supplements (especially among the strongest nootropics) have not undergone the FDA mandated process for approval.
There are some exceptions to this rule, as is the case with Modafinil which is definitely a contender for the prize of the strongest nootropic. In the USA, Modafinil can only be purchased with a prescription which is why certain individuals prefer to buy the unregulated Adrafinil in its place.
But you do not have to resort to getting a prescription from your doctor to use the best nootropic available today. So what are some of the strongest brain supplements that are legal at present?
Contender #1: Noopept:
Noopept is a Russian-developed derivative of Piracetam with a potency reported to be 1,000 stronger. Of all of the Nootropics that are easy to buy online, Noopept is probably the strongest on a pure concentration measure.
It is a significant memory enhancer, making it easier to learn and retain even detailed information while also improving your brain’s ability to search for connections and recall stored facts.
One of the best things about Noopept powder is that it is very cost-effective since such a low dose is normally required. Many users report only needing as little as 10mg, although multiple doses throughout the day are often used since it is eliminated from the system fairly quickly.
This supplement has a slightly different mechanism of action than most of the other Nootropics from the Racetam family. It actually works to increase Nerve Growth Factor and Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor in the hippocampus region of the brain.
These natural chemicals are involved in the maintenance and growth of your brain cells, possibly increase the rate of synapse generation. Prolonged use of this supplement may even lead to stronger effects, without indicating any type of tolerance build-up.
Contender #2: Adrafinil/Modafinil:
The second contender for the title of the strongest legal Nootropic agent on the market would have to be either Adrafinil or Modafinil. These two drugs are often looped in together because Adrafinil actually converts in the liver to Modafinil. Both were developed as wakefulness agents for the purpose of treating serious sleep disorders like narcolepsy and sleep apnea.
Taken during the day, Modafinil can help you remain alert and functioning at a high level even with less than ideal sleep patterns. Studies have found that Modafinil improved mental performance on a number of cognitive tests related to memory, reasoning and communication.
It works by increasing the levels of Hypocretin, Dopamine, Norepinephrine, and Histamine – all powerful neurotransmitters and brain chemicals. These compounds are very strong and should not be used in conjunction with other stimulants or without the advice of a qualified health care provider.
Contender #3: Sunifiram:
Sunifiram is a newer entry into the Nootropic supplement market and it has really only been available to buy for the past few months. Sunifiram is an Ampakine which means its primary mode of action is on the Glutamate AMPA receptors.
Like Noopept, initial publications reported it to have 1000x the potency of Piracetam for improving memory function. It has a clean stimulant effect, giving you energy without the jitters or anxiety that may come with a drug like Modafinil.
Many people say that Sunifiram creates intense amounts of focus and drive while making it easier to perform any tasks that require a lot of brainpower. Some of the areas where Sunifiram seems to be especially effective include in linguistic processing and verbal communication.
We fully expect Sunifiram to become one of the more popular nootropics available in the future, but it is still relatively new and best reserved for people with a very high sense of adventure.
Contender #4: Pramiracetam:
We include Pramiracetam here as an example of a nootropic that might not have the highest potency in the world, but is still recognized as being very strong.
Pramiracetam is not even the strongest Racetam – supplements like Phenylpiracetam, Coluracetam and Nefiracetam are often judged as more concentrated. However, all this really means is that you need a bigger dosage of Pramiracetam to get the full effects.
From a perspective of individual experience, many people say that Pramiracetam gives them the strongest effects with changes to your cognitive processing that you can really feel. Pramiracetam is also attributed with providing intense amounts of concentration, especially in the area of goal oriented work.
You may feel exceptionally high levels of motivation and mental drive when using Pramiracetam. There is a mild stimulant effect, but again not like other CNS stimulants that perk you up temporarily and then lead to a serious crash.
Pramiracetam is legal in the USA and fairly easy to order online in either tablet or powder format.
The Strongest Nootropic
Noopept, Sunifiram, Modafinil and Pramiracetam are four great examples of powerful nootropics that take cognitive enhancement to the next level. If you have had some experience with Piracetam, Aniracetam, Oxiracetam or other nootropics, it may be worth your while to investigate some of these more potent compounds.
A great place to start would be Noopept or Pramiracetam as these supplements are sold by many Nootropic vendors and have a lot of user reviews and experience logs posted online that you can read through first.
While all of these nootropics are very strong, they are also all considered to be highly safe if used appropriately. You can also ramp up the power of any of your nootropics by using it in a stack with synergistic compounds like Alpha GPC or Citicoline.

Pramiracetam and Noopept is a good substitute for Modafinil. Sunifiram is strange it doesn’t affect me as well as the others. I know of people who mix these powerful Nootropics and gain amazing edge. For me, one of each is enoough time to time. I do however sometimes take more than one. Like say Noopept with Modafinil to cocktail things up.
