TruNature Digestive Probiotic is daily dose blend of the friendly bacterium Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifobacterium lactis. This product is dairy, soy and gluten free.
There are a minimum of 10 billion live CFUs (colony forming units) per dosage of Trunature Probiotics. The supplement also contain the prebiotic fiber Short Chain Fructo-oligosaccharides (scFOS), which support the growth of probiotic bacteria.
According to the manufacturer, “Probiotics are ‘friendly’ bacteria that help restore natural balance in your intestinal tract… TruNature Digestive Probiotic helps maintain digestive health and supports a healthy immune system.”
This formula is especially designed to help with conditions of aging and improve microflora balance following the use of antibiotics or other prescription drugs.
TruNature Digestive Probiotic is promoted as containing “safe and effective probiotic strains [that] have long been scientifically proven.” This probiotic culture combination is also purported to help with the effects of poor diet, stress and travel strains.

The human gastrointestinal tract is naturally populated with trillions of bacterial organisms, some of which have a positive effect on health and others of which can cause infections or diseases.
The good bacteria are referred to as “probiotics” and the bad bacteria are referred to as “pathogens”. It is important to maintain a healthy balance between the good bacteria and bad bacteria.
If this balance is disrupted, it can negatively affect digestive function, nutrient absorption, the immune system and more. Imbalance in the microflora may lead to chronic inflammation, digestive discomfort, bloating, gas, diarrhea, constipation or more serious health conditions.
The microflora can be disrupted by a number of factors, including diet, stress, travel, antibiotic use and more. When this happens, it is important to use a probiotic supplement to quickly increase the population of good bacteria, so they can colonize the gut and prevent the spread of bad bacteria.
TruNature Digestive Probiotic helps to restore balance by seeding the gut with a high dosage of beneficial bacteria from the Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifobacterium lactis species. These are two of the most widely used probiotic bacteria and they work synergistically to improve health in both the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract.
Trunature Digestive Probiotic Effects
Each capsule of TruNature Probiotics supplies a minimum of 10 billiob CFUs of Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifobacterium lactis per serving. This is considered an effective dosage.
Taken orally, bifidobacteria are used for preventing acute diarrhea in infants and children; and for treating atopic eczema in infants. This bacterium is also used as a preventative for traveler’s diarrhea and for improving immune function to replenish the intestinal normal flora depleted by antibiotics, chemotherapy and radiation.
Bifidobacteria are also used in the treatment of some cancers, candidiasis, common cold and flu (influenza) symptoms, hepatitis and hypercholesterolemia (high levels of cholesterol in the blood).
This probiotic is also used in treating lactose intolerance, Lyme disease, mastitis (infection of breast tissue), mumps, swine flu, and upper respiratory tract infections.
Bifidobacteria are also used in the treatment of ulcerative colitis (inflamed colon and rectum) and pouchitis for those who have had a colectomy.
Combining Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium
Both Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifobacterium lactis in TruNature Probiotics are Lactic Acid Bacteria. This means that they both break down lactose from foods that we eat and convert this sugar into lactic acid.
Producing lactic acid helps to maintain a low pH environment in the gut, which prevents a number of pathogenic bacteria from colonizing the intestines.
Lactobacillus and Bifobacterium species are different because they colonize different parts of the gut and can affect digestive health in different ways. This is why many probiotic supplements, like TruNature Digestive Probiotic, combine several strains together for a synergistic effect.
In research studies, Bifidobacterium in combination with Lactobacillus acidophilus has been shown to reduce the occurrence of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), tissue death in the bowel. These probiotics decrease the occurrence of both NEC and NEC-related mortality in acutely ill neonates (pre-mature babies).
Some clinical research has shown that day care center children ages 3 to 5 years have significantly fewer influenza-like respiratory symptoms when given milk containing a specific combination of Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium.
Patients who took a Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium combination also had significantly reduced use of antibiotics, less symptoms of cough and fever as well as less incidence of rhinorrhea (runny nose).
Additional Research Results
These supplements have also been found to fight more serious infections and support the immune system. Both probiotic strains of Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium infantis were shown to be beneficial in the treatment and prevention of meticillin resistant Staphyloccus aureus infection (MRSA).
In a study published in the International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents in December 2013, it was found that the use of probiotics eliminated or reduced MRSA colonization.
Probiotics are also being researched for their benefits in the treatment of allergies. The oral probiotics Bifidobacterium lactis AD011 and Lactobacillus acidophilus AD031 were shown to reduce markers for allergies in a Korean study on mice.
The study was published in the Journal of Microbiology and Biotechnology in 2008. The mice given the probiotics had decreased levels of degranulated mast cells, which have a key role in inflammation and allergy.
The mice also had lower levels of white blood cells, and tail scabs. These results indicate that L. acidophilus AD031 and B. lactis AD011 might be useful for the prevention of allergy symptoms.
Trunature Digestive Probiotic Side Effects
Trunature Digestive Probiotic contains ingredients that are generally well tolerated and have a low risk of serious side effects in healthy individuals. Some may experience flatulence, bloating or diarrhea when they first start using TruNature Probiotics, but these symptoms generally subside quickly.
This product should not be used if you allergic to any of the ingredients. It should be avoided by pregnant or breast-feeding women, unless instructed to use it by a physician. It should not be taken during a fever.
Trunature Digestive Probiotics should not be taken by those with an impaired immune system, such as organ donor patients or those using a catheter. Probiotics do interact with antibiotics and the dosages should be spaced at least two hours apart from each other.
Trunature Probiotics are a beneficial choice for those with lactose intolerance. This culture formula has been shown to be useful for those with allergy conditions and upper respiratory infections as well as for restoring a healthy bacteria intestinal flora.
