Studies show that White Kidney Bean Carb Intercept supplements may be effective for weight loss, managing body fat and controlling hunger.
Secondary benefits of weight loss for obese and overweight individuals may include reducing the risks of heart disease and improving diabetes and prediabetes symptoms.
White Kidney Bean Carb Intercept works by preventing some of the carbs that you consume from being digested and absorbed into your blood stream.
It is said to intercept these carbohydrate-based calories, resulting in fewer calories entering your body. By effectively reducing caloric intake, weight loss goals may be easier to achieve.
White kidney beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) are also called cannellini beans and contain an active constituent called phaseolamin. Phaseolamin impedes the action of alpha-amylase, a digestive enzyme required for metabolizing carbohydrate food sources.
White Kidney Bean Carb Intercept contains Phase 2 Carb Controller which is a brand name for a proprietary extract from this natural plant. White Kidney Bean Carb Intercept is sold by Natrol and is promoted as a non-stimulant diet pill that helps individuals control their weight when combined with a sensible diet and exercise program.

White Kidney Bean Carb Intercept formula sold by Natrol contains 500 mg of Phase 2 Carb Controller Complex per capsule.
This formula is a combination of phaseolamin extract with Chromium Dibasic Calcium Phosphate.
Chromium is another natural supplement used to control blood sugar levels and to promote the metabolization of fats, carbohydrates and proteins. There is a total active dosage of 20 mcg of Foodbound Chromium per capsule of Carb Intercept.
The makers of this supplement recommend taking two capsules immediately before consuming a meal that contains starch.
Understanding how Carb Intercept Works
Carbohydrate digestion begins in the mouth when the salivary glands release the enzyme alpha-amylase. Complex carbohydrates begin to get broken down by amylase in the mouth when chewing and then the food is transported to the stomach.
The breakdown of these carbs by alpha-amylase is halted temporarily as the food reaches the stomach. The pH in the stomach is too acidic to keep the reactions going. Only about 5% of the carb digestion process is completed by the time the food travels from the mouth to the stomach.
When the foods move into the small intestines, more alpha-amylase is released, this time by the pancreas. In normal conditions, the complex carbs get broken down into simpler oligosaccharides via alpha-amylase, and then they are further digested into usable monosaccharides.
When administering a White Kidney Bean Carb Intercept supplement along with the foods ingested, phaseolamin inhibits the action of alpha-amylase, impeding the digestion of the carbs. This allows the carbs to travel through the small intestines and proceed through the large intestines, and into the colon for defecation – without being fully digested.
The vitamins, minerals, fiber and other constituents of the carb-heavy foods are still digested and assimilated when taking Phase 2 extract pills. Carbohydrate constituents that are resistant to the digestive process are either expelled via the colon or are held in the colon and allowed to ferment.
During this fermentation process, beneficial byproducts are given off including propionic, butyric and acetic acids. These acids have been clinically associated with the prevention of colon cancer. White Kidney Bean extract continues to be researched for this purpose.
Results of White Kidney Bean Carb Intercept for Weight Loss
Various clinical studies have been completed on phaseolamin’s capacities to induce weight loss. In one study from China, 100 subjects were monitored in a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. All subjects had BMIs between 25 and 40 (overweight to extremely obese).
Treatment group subjects received 3000mg of phaseolamin daily, divided into three equal doses. The study lasted sixty days. The following data was generated:
- Significant loss of weight was reported at 30 and 60 days;
- At Day 60, the average weight loss of the active group was 4.18 pounds;
- At Day 60, placebo group subjects had lost less than 1 pound on average;
- Active group waist circumference decreased on average by 1.9cm;
- Placebo group waist circumference decreased on average by 0.4cm;
- No changes in hip measurements were reported;
- No blood chemistry anomalies were noted;
- No adverse side effects were reported or observed in any of the subjects.
In a separate 12-week placebo-controlled, double-blind trial, 60 individuals with body mass indices between 25 and 32 were monitored.
Each of the active group received 3000mg daily of phaseolamin, divided into equal doses before each of three meal times. The following results were published:
- Significant weight loss in active group participants was reported at 6, 8 and 12 weeks;
- At the end of Week 12, active participants had lost an average of 0.575 pounds per week (6.9 ±7.9 lbs);
- In comparison, the placebo group gained an average of 0.8 pounds per participant;
- Insignificant changes in fat mass were reported between the two groups;
- No strong changes in lean mass or body measurements were reported;
- No ill side effects were reported.
Side Effects of White Kidney Bean Carb Intercept
There are no known serious or lasting side effects associated with White Kidney Bean Carb Intercept products. Phaseolamin is well tolerated by the human body.
Cannellini beans are GRAS foods according to the FDA, meaning they are “generally regarded as safe”. In some cases, side effects including diarrhea, upset stomach, flatulence and/or bloating may occur for the first few days of supplementation.
Conclusion
White Kidney Bean Carb Intercept is a weight loss supplement that has a considered amount of scientific research backing up its effectiveness. While more trials are required to understand the full scope of effects, this supplement does exhibit a clear mechanism of action by which it is possible to reduce body weight.
Using a phaseolamin extract to block the digestion of some starch-based foods seems to safely decrease the amount of energy (calories) derived from carbohydrate-based food sources.
Over time, absorbing fewer carb calories can support weight loss in much the same way as a calorie restricted diets. Taking White Kidney Bean or Phase 2 supplement should not be seen as a license to eat any foods that you would like without experiencing weight gain.
However, this natural product may help to support weight loss effects when combined with healthy eating and an active lifestyle. If you are considering using a White Kidney Bean Carb Intercept supplement, then please consult with your family physician first to ensure your complete safety from side effects and/or prescription/OTC drug contraindications.
